I used to believe that getting healthier meant doing more. More workouts. More supplements. More structure. I kept adding routines, hoping one of them would finally make me feel like myself again. But when my body started to break down, all that structure didn’t help. It just masked how disconnected I really was.
Healing from chronic illness stripped everything back. I had to move slower. I had to rebuild from the inside out, not with discipline or force, but with care. That season shaped everything about how I approach wellness now, and it’s the foundation of what I teach through Holistic Girlie.
Here’s what chronic illness taught me about real wellness and why it changed everything.

I spent years pushing through fatigue, ignoring symptoms, and convincing myself that if I just stayed disciplined, things would eventually click. I kept believing that more effort would fix it.
But eventually, no meal plan, workout routine, or supplement could keep me going. I was inflamed, foggy, and tired in a way that rest alone couldn’t touch. It wasn’t a low-energy day; it was a full system shutdown. I didn’t pause because I chose to. I paused because I had to.
At first, rest felt like failure. I thought I had to earn it. But when rest became the only option, I finally began to understand its power.
Slowing down helped me notice how much stress I’d been carrying. I started learning about the nervous system and how deeply our emotional and physical health are connected. That’s when the healing began. Not with a better routine but with better regulation. I started to feel safe in my body again.
Before, my wellness routines were all about control. They were tightly scheduled, strictly tracked, and hard to maintain. Chronic illness didn’t give me space for that kind of rigidity.
I had to rethink everything. I started building rhythms that adjusted with my energy. I let my routines be flexible. I created space for rest without guilt. That flexibility didn’t mean I was slacking. It meant I was finally taking care of myself in a way that made sense for the life I was actually living.
The old version of consistency I followed only counted if I never missed a day. But real consistency, the kind that supports long-term wellness, looks completely different.
Now it means:
That shift let me stay in relationship with my goals instead of constantly starting over.
As I began healing, I took notes. I saved the tools that helped. I started tracking what was actually working. These weren’t flashy strategies, but they were supportive and sustainable.
I didn’t see many people talking about wellness in this way. So I built Holistic Girlie to be that space. A space for women who want better habits and better support without the pressure to be perfect.
Now, I use holistic practices not to micromanage my life, but to feel present in it.
Wellness isn’t about doing everything right. It’s about finding practices that help you return to yourself when life feels overwhelming. It’s about being willing to adjust, rest, and rebuild without shame.
If you’re in a season of healing or just tired of routines that don’t work, you’re not broken. You’re learning to listen more closely, and that’s a powerful place to be.
If you’re looking for support to create habits that last, my free habit guide can help. It’s full of gentle, real-life strategies to help you stay consistent without burnout.
